History of Lynndale Park Picnic Shelter
Lynndale Park, the second oldest park in Lynnwood, was acquired by the City in 1962 and 1965. The Lynndale Park Picnic Shelter has been a popular destination for outdoor gatherings and events in Lynnwood, Washington, for many decades. The shelter was constructed in the 1930s by the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC), a public work relief program that was part of President Franklin D. Roosevelt's New Deal.
The CCC was established during the Great Depression to provide jobs for unemployed men and improve the nation's infrastructure and natural resources. The program focused on conservation and reforestation projects, and the construction of parks and public facilities like the Lynndale Park Picnic Shelter. The park opened for community use in 1969, the same year Lynnwood was incorporated.
Over the years, the shelter has been renovated and updated to meet the changing needs of the community. In the 1970s, a concrete floor was added to the shelter, and in the 1990s, a new roof was installed. In 2016, the shelter underwent a major renovation that included the addition of a new kitchen area and upgraded electrical and plumbing systems. An off-leash dog area was added to the park in February 2017. Learn more about Heritage Park here.
