History of Meadowdale Beach Park

Meadowdale Beach Park covers over 100 acres of land. The park features beautiful forested areas, wetlands, hiking trails, and a 1.75-mile stretch of sandy beach on the Puget Sound. The area has a rich history, with evidence of indigenous settlements dating back thousands of years. In the late 1800s, the park's land was purchased by the Puget Mill Company, which built a sawmill and a small town for workers. The mill eventually closed in the 1930s, and the land was sold to private owners. The park's beachfront property was acquired by the Snohomish County Parks Department in 1971, and the park has since undergone several expansions.

In the 1980s, a group of local volunteers formed the Meadowdale Beach Park Stewardship Group to help maintain and improve the park. They have since helped to plant native vegetation, remove invasive species, and build new trails and facilities. Today, Meadowdale Beach Park is a beloved community resource, offering visitors the opportunity to enjoy the natural beauty and outdoor recreation opportunities of the Puget Sound region. Nowadays, the Meadowdale Beach Park and Estuary Restoration Project are scheduled to be completed in the spring of 2022, which are another changes in the park.
